Under federal law, cannabis (from which both CBD and marijuana are derived) is illegal everywhere, although the laws against it aren’t generally enforced in states that have legalized marijuana. Some manufacturers claim that CBD culled from legally imported industrial hemp, which has little to no THC, is fine to ship across the U.S., but many experts disagree, noting that because hemp comes from the same species as marijuana, cannabis sativa, all CBD falls under the DEA’s Schedule 1 designation. “This creative interpretation of the law runs afoul of reality,” says the Brookings Institution, a Washington, DC, think tank.

In addition to their range of oral CBD tinctures (which are administered via droplets placed below the tongue), Aura CBD also offers a newly-introduced Turmeric MCT cannabis butter (which is great to use in tea, coffee, smoothies, or as a cooking oil), a variety of CBD skincare products, and a delicious range of CBD edibles including our personal favorite raw CBD chocolates, which contain organic cacao powder and raw, organic agave.
We have receptors for cannabinoids in the whole body, but the first type (CB1) are very dense in the pain pathways of the brain, spine, and nerves. The second type (CB2) are more important for the immune system but is also involved in inflammation. By gently acting on both pathways, our internal cannabinoids and CBD can balance both pain and inflammation [64].
When you buy CBD online, stick to vendors who invest in third-party lab tests and provide only reputable, US-manufactured products. Hemp oil is expensive to produce at the highest purity and quality standards, so you should steer clear of any suspiciously cheap offer or product, as it may contain substances you don’t want to ingest. Check out our best CBD oil page to discover some of the most popular product types.

Recognized by Mommy Greenest, EcoSalon, VegNews and the Natural Health Magazine Beauty Award for “Best Hand Cream,” Wonder Seed products contain a variety of vitamins, minerals, all ten amino acids and omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. However, when compared to skin-care pillar ingredients like retinols and vitamin C, the research behind CBD's efficacy in skin care (especially beyond the realms of being a temporary topical pain reliever) is still relatively in its infancy. "There is limited data to suggest that CBD may decrease oil production when applied topically," says Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital, who explains that unlike marijuana, which contains psychoactive THC, hemp seed oil is a common source of naturally anti-inflammatory cannabinoids — which is what ends up in all of those lotions and potions. "Hemp seed oil also acts as an emollient to smooth rough cells on the skin's surface and offers moisturizing benefits," he adds.
This non-greasy formula is a lightweight counterpart to all those heavy hemp salves and balms that you tend to see on the market, so much so that you could use this every day on your entire body without worries about staining your clothes. Along with the Colorado-grown CBD oil, it has a lotion base made with aloe vera leaf juice powder (good for antioxidants), lactic acid (good for exfoliation), and other reputable skincare ingredients. Keep this by your shower and use it while your skin is still moist, warm, and soft for the best results.

Dr. Cohen has found that chronic conditions including autoimmune diseases and pain syndromes can be helped with a 6-mg under-the-tongue tincture (the fastest delivery system) or a 25-mg capsule taken twice a day. Dosages for topical products like lotions are especially hard to determine—there’s no clarity on how much CBD gets into the system through the skin.

After two years of R&D and lots of testing and learning, Love CBD had already established itself as one of the pioneer brands in the UK for sprays and balms. Love CBD produces some of the strongest CBD sprays we’ve found in the UK market: the 1400mg CBD Spray and the 2000mg CBD spray (both in a 20ml bottle). The CBD oil is full spectrum, with high CBDa content to achieve the entourage effect. Love CBD also supplies an XL (100g) high-strength CBD Balm with 1000mg of CBD oil content and natural ingredients only: Cannabis Sativa L., coconut oil, shea butter, cacao, grape seed oil, rosemary, and natural vanilla aroma. Ideal for a good back rub before bed. Visit the Love CBD collection.
Just last year, Herbivore launched Emerald, a hemp-infused oil, and a few months later, it's unveiling its CBD-infused twin. Like the original, the new Herbivore Botanicals Emerald 100mg CBD Deep Moisture Glow Oil formulation packs a hydrating punch, but also provides the calming and soothing effects of the ingredient. Plus, the brand will donate $1 from every Emerald sale to support cannabis legalization efforts as well as female-owned organizations in the cannabis industry.
Overall, your skin experiences plenty of stress and damage throughout the day. It’s just natural. It’s the organ that’s keeping your body all together and protects you from free radicals in the air of your environment. Opting for a CBD lotion, even on your best days, gives your skin an extra boost. It can reinvigorate skin that’s dull and dry, and it can be especially useful after a day in the sun or a long trip.
The human body also produces cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids, in a bodily system known as the endocannabinoid system (or ECS). The ECS promotes homeostasis by regulating a wide range of functions, including motor skills, mood, appetite, and sleep. As we age, our ECS produces fewer endocannabinoids; they may also decrease due to physical injury or disease. Replenishing depleted endocannabinoids with phytocannabinoids like CBD can help restore balance to the body.

Obviously it’s not guaranteed that CBD cream will give you the pain relief you need, but if you’ve tried everything else (or even if you haven’t) it’s worth it to try it out. If you can treat your chronic and recurring pain with something as simple as all-natural CBD, then why not? There’s no need to take expensive and risky prescriptions. Just rub the cream in to whatever part of your body is giving you problems and wait for it to work it’s magic.
So, what is the best way to use CBD oil? CBD comes in a variety of forms, such as oil, tincture, oil for vaping, sublingual spray, edibles, and topical creams, so you can choose the method that is most suitable for your use. The main idea behind all the methods of using CBD is to make sure that this cannabinoid ends up in your system in an easy manner, producing the results you want. But when it comes to choosing the right method, it depends very much on the optimal dose in your case, the results you wish to achieve, and how long you want its effects to last. So, there isn’t a general rule when it comes to using CBD products.
Oils are hot in the beauty world. As a beauty editor, I’ve slathered everything short of butter onto my face: argan, coconut, rosehip, sandalwood, chia, neroli, calendula, mandarin, macadamia, rice bran, seabuckthorn, patchouli, grapefruit seed, sesame seed, soybean, sweet almond, pomegranate seed, lemon myrtle, sunflower seed—even extra virgin olive oil from my pantry when I was desperate. I’ve washed my face with oil-based cleansers, and dabbed expensive mixtures being sold as “face oils” onto my skin in hopes of achieving that Instagram-ready glow. Contrary to popular belief, the right oil is actually good for your face and won’t clog your pores. Your skin needs a reasonable amount of oil to do its business; as a matter of fact, if you scrub away all your natural face oil (as I was prone to do with rubbing alcohol as a frustrated and misguided pizza-faced teen), you may actually be prone to more breakouts as your skin tries to make up for the imbalance. As cannabis meets up with the mainstream beauty world, cannabidiol (CBD) oil may be the next big thing.
Aura CBD oil actually comes from a well-known and respected brand based in California, but it has a strong presence in the UK with a London office, and currently ships to residential addresses throughout the United Kingdom. Over the last year or so the brand has taken big steps to cement their presence on the UK CBD market, and is now offering high-potency hemp pastes, CBD edibles, and CBD skincare products in addition to their range of top-class CBD tinctures.
Sol CBD creates and carries various skin care products, but one of our favorites is the Nourish Formula. Made in small batches to ensure quality and potency, this 30 mL bottle (according to the company) “brings your skin back to health with a powerful synergistic blend of herbs and cannabinoids.” The herbs they speak of include rosehip and rosemary, as well as some soothing essential oils like ylang ylang and lavender.
As more and more states legalize the use of marijuana, a product known as CBD oil has surged in popularity. A chemical compound found in the cannabis plant, CBD, or cannabidiol, is non-intoxicating and does not cause the noticeable euphoric effects associated with tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC, another marijuana compound). Products marketed as CBD oil may contain THC.
“Buying from a reputable manufacturer is crucial, because it matters how the plant is cultivated and processed,” Dr. Maroon says. One clue that a company is cutting corners: too low a cost. Good CBD is pricey—a bottle of high-quality capsules is sold in Cohen’s office for $140. But for many, it’s worth the money. Roth spent $60 on her tiny bottle. But when her energy returned the day she started taking CBD, she decided that was a small price to pay.
It’s not surprising that Provacan was voted number one on our updated list of best CBD oils in the UK. Their potent CBD formula and cutting-edge extraction technology has allowed them to produce a product that is literally second to none. Furthermore, Provacan is backed by a powerhouse in the cannabis research industry, known as CiiTECH, which allows them to constantly improve their CBD extraction based on scientific findings and results.
There’s good reason to love USA-made hemp products, but this European product is a world-class product. The CBD in the Endoca Body Butter is mixed with a simple concoction of shea butter, palm oil, cocoa seed butter, cannabis sativa seed oil, coconut oil, root starch, vanilla, beeswax, and vitamin E. These simple and effective ingredients are so pure, you can actually eat this body butter!
The NCBI study does mention some potential side effects for cannabidiol, such as the inhibition of hepatic drug metabolism and decreased activity of p-glycoprotein. CBD can indeed interact with a series of pharmaceuticals, as it inhibits the activity of some liver enzymes called cytochrome P450. This family of enzymes metabolizes most of the pharmaceutical drugs used to treat humans.

Nabiximols (Sativex), a multiple sclerosis drug made from a combination of TCH and CBD, is approved in the United Kingdom and Canada to treat MS pain. However, researchers think the CBD in the drug may be contributing more with its anti-inflammatory properties than by acting against the pain. Clinical trials of CBD are necessary to determine whether or not it should be used for pain management.

Historically, hemp could legally be grown and cultivated for academic research purposes only. However, the legality of hemp growth has changed in the past year. In April 2018, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky introduced the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, a piece of legislation that proposed legalizing all hemp products at the federal level. The act was incorporated in the 2018 United States Farm Bill, which passed in both the House and Senate in December 2018. Per the farm bill, industrial hemp will be descheduled as a federally controlled substance.
Success stories like Oliver’s are everywhere, but there’s not a lot of data to back up those results. That’s because CBD comes from cannabis and, like nearly all other parts of the plant, is categorized by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) as a Schedule 1 drug—the most restrictive classification. (Others on that list: heroin, Ecstasy, and peyote.) This classification, which cannabis advocates have tried for years to change, keeps cannabis-derived products, including CBD, from being properly studied in the U.S.
